Super 14 Previews and Predictions Week 13

Friday 7 May

Hurricanes v Reds, Wellington 09:35

The Reds were soundly beaten last week and looked a shadow… shadow… shadow of their former selves. Yes, like the song. The Hurricanes came back brilliantly to beat the Chiefs and rack up 4 tries in the process. Nonu managed to sum it up after the game with this fine choice of words “f*** we were on our tryline and f*** everyone didn’t know what was hitting us, then 50 minutes later we came out on top and scored a f***** last minute try and get this f***** bonus point.”. What more can you say really.
Prediction: Hurricanes by f**** 7.

Vodacom Bulls v Crusaders, Loftus 19:10

Last week the Crusaders were schooled by the Stormers. Harsh, mean, lashed by teachers, beaten up by the matrics, boarding school schooled. They will be desperate for a win as a loss may mean the end for their semi final hopes. The Bulls are still playing superb rugga and only need 2 points to assure them of a home semi, they are not always as good playing Friday night games but I still see them getting 4 points.
Prediction: Bulls by 10.

Saturday 8 May

Chiefs v Waratahs, Wellington 09:35

Waratahs had no idea in crappy conditions last week. This week they will need to get back on track to still be in with a shout. The Chiefs played better last week but to lose at the death by a bunch of foul mouths could not have been easy. I think this may be close but expect the Tahs to hang on and win this. Steve “I maaay have had a bad game 2 weeks ago, maaybe Walsh” is the ref, so who knows really. Expect some dubious calls but well styled hair.
Prediction: Tahs by 3 to 7.

Brumbies v Highlanders, Canberra 11:40

The Highlanders won last week, playing perfect pragmatic (alliteration – check) rugby and Jimmy Cowan finally got the keys to the city, which he then lost in an underground sheep fighting gamble. The Brumbies played possibly the game of their season to beat the Reds and are looking very good at home. Giteau looks to be regaining some form and captain Hoilles is playing awesome rugby.
Prediction: Brumbies by 5 to 15

Blues v Auto & General Lions, Ellis Park 15:00

Siiiiiiiiiigh. Am not really sure which games Dick Muir is watching but he said after the game that this was their worst performance of the season so far. That’s like watching Grey’s Anatomy and saying “ooh this episode wasn’t so good”. They are all so very bad. The Lions say they are playing for pride, what does that even mean? The Blues are a bit erratic and if they play like they did against the Cheetahs then who knows but I fear that is just the die hard, slightly delusional, Lions forever, part of me saying that. Possibly a lot of tries but no joy I am afraid.
Prediction: Blues by 10 to 15.

Vodacom Cheetahs v Force, Vodacom Park 17:05

The Cheetahs again played well last week. There I said it. Again! Juan Smith had another awesome performance and his leadership often single handedly wins games for this team. A good team effort last week pulled off quite the upset but can they do it again? The Force looked good against the Lions but who doesn’t really. They started the season slowly but like the proverbial juggernaut seem hard to stop now that they have momentum. Also they can run through walls! Proverbial walls. Tough one to call this.
Prediction: Cheetahs by the proverbial 2.

The Sharks v The Stormers, Absa Stadium 19:10

Another probable cracker. Sharks gave it their all last week but seemed to run out of gas a bit at the end due to altitude, no problems like that this week though. They have nothing to play for but didn’t really last week either. The Stormers played so well last week, most of the Stormers fans went home and had drunken sex with their wives/girlfriends/cardboard cut out of Jacque Fouries. If they play as well again this week I expect a victory by at least 10. They can secure a semi final with a win and I expect them to do just that.
Prediction: Stormers by 5 to 10

P.S Sharks cheerleaders
