World Cup Semi Final Prediction – Germany vs Spain

What a game last night. Hup Hup Holland and no mistake.

I did the fan walk with about 5 million other people and it was awesome. I don’t think I have seen that many Dutch people in one place since the great Amsterdam Cheese Fest of ’78.

If you missed it, how is this for a goal from Van Brockhorst?!!!! Goal of the tournament nominee and a massive thumbs up from Maverick.

So who will the Dutch face in their first World Cup Final appearance in 32 years? Let’s have a look…

Germany vs Spain – July 7th 2010

This is a very tough call. Spain have excellent defense, having conceded only 2 goals in their 5 games so far but the Germans are not exactly a leaky faucet in this department either. The Germans have mostly frustrated their opponents into submission but Spain look a much more patient side with better ball retention than any of the teams the Germans have faced so far.

As for the players to look out for, Schweinsteiger (best name of tournament nominee) is playing the holding midfielder position to perfection and has been one of the players of the tournament so far. Keep a look out for Klose, who is on track to equal and possibly break Ronaldo’s record for the most goals in World Cups. This guy loves finding the back of the net. Also milk. Coincidence? You decide.

As for Spain, the world is still waiting to see if Torres can finally get back to his best and you have got to wonder if he is fully fit (he isn’t). Alonso will be slugging it out in the midfield against Schweinsteiger and this could be one of the battles worth looking out for. Spain will again rely on Villa who has come to their rescue in the last two games. Look out for shirt pulling after he scores yet another goal.

So who is going to stand up and be counted on the day? Who wants it more? Who is going to get up there and say “We will not go quietly into the night!” We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!”

Ok so that last part was actually a quote from ‘Independence Day’ but relevant in a way.

Paul the Octopus predicted a Spanish victory. If he is wrong the Germans win and everyone is happy, if he is right, at least he will continue to be praised as the gypsy king of predictions.

Venue: Moses Mabhiba Stadium, Durban

Kick Off: 8:30pm

Prediction: Germany 2-1

  1. OHHHH FFFFFSSSHIIIITTTT I LIKE MILK AS WELL!!!

  2. Who wants to bet against a 0-0 draw followed by extra time and then penalties?

    • No I dont think this game will come down to PKs. I want to say that Germany has looked pretty solid, but I will be rooting for Spain. As long as they don’t try to make things too complicated they can win. Usually they are looking for those passes that thread the eye of a needle. Not necessary, they need to stick to the basics and play possession to win this won.

  3. sheesh, take it heeasy Mr Grumpy pants

  4. – im sure villa will score tonight!

  6. Spain sure.Villa had score.

  7. I think spain vs Naterland in fanal round.

  8. I’ve heard that the Octopus tagged Germany as the Europe winner in 2008 against Spain and Spain won. This makes me hope for the same mistake tonight.

  9. linking the quote from the ” independence day” to football game is quite a creative idea :) I also associate football to various things and by the way just posted an article which includes my prediction about tonight’s match…I’d be happy if you popped in and too a look :

  13. And so It raves on the World Cup Fever is spreading like wild fire. Question still remains on who wants it more.

  14. I agree with your prediction. I think Germany wins this game. They are in great form and are a better “team” than Spain. Check out my blog: http://therallycap.wordpress.com

  15. Yeah I haven’t decided yet whether I’m going for Spain or Germany. Usually I can feel it right away…

  16. yeah i kinda want germany to win, i just think they’re the better side, although my gut instinct says that Spain will have the edge..

  17. As an English man and Liverpool fan I want Torres to score all three goals in a 3-0 Spain win. Then we will have a World Cup Final with two teams who have never won it before.
But my head says Germany will win and we will get a rematch of the 1974 Final (West Germany 2-1 Netherlands).

  18. Come on Germany!

p.s. No I am not German, but it makes me feel better about my own team being crap (England) if Germany win the World Cup.
