Super Rugby 2013: Preview and Predictions – Round 7, Part 1

“I only got one result wrong from last weeks’ predictions”

“Whaaat nicely done, well-played”

“Thanks, it was nothing really”

“Don’t be so humble you are basically firetucking awesome”

“Stop it”

“I am serious, you rock and are incredibly good-looking”

“You are too. We should mate, I mean date”.

“Yesss”

That may or may not be a conversation I had with a super hot model…. Ok I didn’t have it with a model… or even with a girl… or at all… geez, I need to get out more.

A few cracka lacking games this past weekend and although I would love to comment on all of them, I seem to have picked up a serious case of man flu, which is like the Ebola virus mixed with Malaria and Measles, so I am going to cut this post short before I bleed to death from the inside.

Kurtely Beale

Team of the week: Stormers. Special mention: Sharks and Crusaders. Douchebag of the week: Kurtley brawler Beale, for punching his own team mates… class shown.

Super Rugby round 7, Friday 29 March 2013

Highlanders vs Reds

The Highlanders once again played some solid rugga only to be on the losing side again. Can they finally get their first win this week? Surely. Come on Highlanders! They welcome back Andrew Hore and Tony WoodCOCK so should have the advantage at scrum time but have lost wing Kade Poki to injury.

The Reds came within inches of losing last week against the Bulls and were helped by an incredibly dodgy yellow card to Lionel Mapoe for a supposed tip tackle. Still a win is a win is a win and they will be happy to get the result and for Will Genia coming through the game unscathed. They are without Digby face tattoos Ioane for this game and will know they will need a far more polished performance to get their first ever win in Dunedin (or Invercargill). They have never actually beaten the Highlanders away. Laaaame.

Venue: Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin

Kick-Off: Fri, 8:35am (SA time)

Highlanders vs Reds Prediction: Highlanders by less than 7

Hurricanes vs Kings

The Kings were well and truly beaten last week against the Crusaders and unfortunately life does not get much easier for the PE side. They welcome back centre Andriess Strauss, who will captain the side and lock Steven Sykes, who will be vice captain and will be hoping the experienced men can make a big difference.

The Hurricanes had a bye last week so will be nice and rested for this game and will be glad for this chance to bank the 4 try bonus point victory as they try to keep up with the Chiefs and Saders. Look out for tries aplenty and sadly for the Kings, another smash you in your face defeat.

Venue: Westpac Stadium, Wellington

Kick-Off: Sat 5:35am (SA time)

Hurricanes vs Kings Prediction: Hurricanes by 20-30

Chiefs vs Blues

The Chiefs were very impressive against the Highlanders and showed just why they are going to be so tough to beat this year, especially at home, where they rely on something no other team can ever get used to… cow bells.

More cowbell

They are without star scrummie Tawera Kerr-Barlow, who is replaced by Augustine Pulu but do have the experienced Brendon Leonard on the bench. The Chiefs have a good recent record against the Blues which should get even better on Saturday.

The Blues started the season well but have lost two on the trot since then and one of those was against the Waratahs… embarrassing!! They started well last week but then eased off on the ol’ accelerator and lost due to a last-minute penalty kick. They will  need to up their intensity levels and play out of their skins to beat the Chiefs this week. They can do it of course but it would be a massive upset.

Venue: Bay Park Stadium, Mt Manganui

Kick-Off: 8:35am

Chiefs vs Blues Prediction: Chiefs by 7-15

Look out for part 2 tomorrow. Hopefully I make it through the night.
