Deadmau5 South Africa Tour – What You Missed
My fragile little mind let Deadmau5 run around inside it like a pinball machine, and it was brilliant. I can’t remember the last time my mind was so deliciously blown to smithereens by a stage show, it might have been in Vegas, but that’s a whole other kaleidoscope that will probably never be properly unraveled.
When I mention that I went to Deadmau5’s Cape Town spectacle I’m frequently met with the same type of vacant look I might encounter when I say “Lois Einhorn’s a man”. I’d pick this guy, hands up, over any of the stadium acts that have shaken their money makers at the Green Point Stadium this year. Plug in people, turn on, tune in, drop out is way back in Kansas.
Name: Joel Zimmerman aka Deadmau5
Age: 30
Occupation: DJ and Producer (Nominated for 3 Grammy Awards in 2011)
Deadmau5 aquired his moniker after finding a dead mouse inside his computer while replacing a video card. After relaying the event to a chatroom he became known as “that dead mouse guy”. Internet Relay Chat prohibits names of 9 characters and Deadmau5 was born, so to speak.
But enough chit chat, here’s why we fuss:
- Nokia Lumia 800 Smartphone launch
- Millbank Tower in London
- 120 high video wall
- 16 projectors beaming 3D animations across the Thames
So next time Deadmau5 comes to Cape Town, GO!
