Vans World Cup of Surfing 2011

Maverick thumbs up to John John Florence from Hawaii on winning the Vans World Cup.

This event slipped under my surfing radar,  possibly due to me focussing too much on my “hot new pics of Mila Kunis” radar but I digress…

Quality tube riding by the 19-year-old whipper snapper, in near perfect 10ft conditions,  clinched the title for the local favourite, who is now leading the Vans Triple Crown series ratings.

Local knowledge was advantageous with 7 Hawaiians making it to the quarter-finals, which is incidentally how far Saffas, Jordy Smith and Travis Logie progressed. Why can South Africans not get past the quarter finals in World Cups, cricket, rugby and now surfing. Gosh darnnit!!!

Check out the highlights of the final day…

And just to show that even these guys bail (albeit in larger, more hectic waves)  like the rest of us, have a look at the Day 4 wipeouts…. say it with me… “oooooh”
