Robert Carlyle walks us into True Grit
I went to watch the newest offering from the Coen Brothers, “True Grit,” besides being whisked on a rip-roaring journey dripping with lyrical wit, we were gifted this single-shot 6 minute advert entitled “The Man Who Walked Around the World.”
Written by Justin Moore and directed by Jamie Rafn.
Love this advert, particularly the first piece of monologue, “Hey piper, shut it.”
Go see True Grit, it’s an excellent interpretation of Charles Portis’s novel and a rather different remake of the film that brought John Wayne an Oscar. The acting from Jeff Bridges as the one-eyed bounty hunter, Rooster Cogburn, Matt Damon as LaBoeuf and Hailee Steinfeld as Mattie Ross is phenomenal. The narrative is a dextrous composition of vernacular dialogue and bald humour, and the direction typically idiosyncratic. This is old-school, classic entertainment.
