Frans Steyn out of All Blacks Test
It has been confirmed that Frans Steyn will miss the August 21 Tri-Nations Test against the All blacks due to injury.
He has been advised not to train until Wednesday next week in order to recover from a quad injury that he sustained in a warm up game for his French club, Racing Metro, last week.
SARU’s manager of national teams, Andy Marinos has said that they will be looking to have him in the squad for the two games against the Wallabies. The Springbok management no doubt looking for that extra attacking option with Steyn at the back not to mention his ability to donkey boot drop-kicks over from 60 metres out.
It looks like Gio Aplon may play at fullback against the All Blacks after Zane Kirchener was released to play for the Bulls this Saturday although wily Pieter de Villiers was quick to point out that all of the initial 29 players selected for the training squad still has a chance of making the matchday 22.
Let’s hope (sacrifice small children, pray, wish upon stars) the Springboks can make a better showing of themselves against a very impressive looking All Black side.
