S14 Final Preview and Prediction

It’s the eye on the Final, it’s the cream of the crop
Rising up to the challenge of tight lineouts
And that guy called Habana, wants a try on the night
And we’re watching as teams try to score……. in the Final

Boom!

Thank you Tina Turner for the original lyrics and now, on to the game.

For those of you who love stats and figures, get a life! Actually I am one, so below are some interesting facts  for your reading pleasure. For those not interested have a look once again at one of the winners of the Cheerleaders of the year 2010, well done the Sharks girls.

• The Bulls have conceded 32 tries this season, the Stormers have conceded 17
• Bakkies decided to use his ‘free’ time by going in for surgery to remove some loose cartilage in his knee. He had this to say “It’s nothing serious, you should see the other guy’s face…”
• The Stormers have forced 78 turnovers to the Bulls 43 in tackles and rucks and have a 79% tackle success rate
• Coach of the Crusaders, Todd Blackadder had this to say about not making the Finals “ahh bro, no worries. In 4 years all your quality players will be playing for the Saders. Choice”
• This is only the 2nd time in history that 2 SA teams are playing in the final
• Joe Pietersen has once again denied that he is in fact, Percy Montgomery’s love child
• The Bulls have scored 50 tries so far this season
• The Sharks cheerleaders want to thank everyone for voting for them and wish the Sharks the best of luck for the final.

Saturday

Bulls v Stormers, Soweto 5:00pm

This final has been billed as a game between the best defence vs the best attack and rightly so. However, this is a final and all bets are off in a final! Thats actually not true, you can probably still get some good odds but I digress, my point is that no one will remember who scored tries and who tackled the most. The only thing people will remember after Sat is how awesome the braai was, that and the cheerleaders. Oh and the winner.

First up, the Bulls.

The Bulls are favourites having been in two finals before and have home ground advantage.

Last week Orlando stadium adopted the Bulls players and fans with open arms and word has it the supporters partied up a storm in Soweto and this week will be no different, regardless of the result.

The Bulls certainly have the experience to defend their title. Only 2 players (the wings) have not played in a final before. They look like they have the stronger scrum and marginally better kickers. This season the Bulls have spent on average 22 min of each game in the opposition’s half and I expect them to try to do the same come Sat.

Plus they will have these two in the stands. What more could you ask for?

On to the Stormers.

By far the best defensive team throughout the competition and a superb loose forward trio. Jaque Fourie has been huge in defence and his experience will be invaluable. Not to mention his ‘tries of the year’ scoring abilities. The lineouts have been one of the Stormers strongest facets lead by the 9ft tall Bekker and his battle with King Matfield will be immense. The biggest question, who will have grown the  better beard?

Duane Vermeulen vs Spies is going to be epic. I expect Burger and Louw to have a slight upper hand on Stegman and Potgieter in the loose but only just. The midfield battle between De Jongh and Olivier may prove to be a deciding factor but I reckon Fourie and Steyn vs Duvenhage and Grant will give the Bulls that ever elusive ‘edge’.

Will the vuvuzelas put Grant off? Will Spies manage to break through the extraordinarily tight defence? Will Habana score against his old team? Will Jaque Fourie come back to play for the Lions next season (What?! It could happen).

I predict the Bulls to take this one, with experience and home ground advantage proving too much for the Stormers.

Prediction: Bulls by 7.

  1. I am a big fan of the underdog, which may explain why I still support the lions. That said, I have to support the Bulls on Saturday, or else my girlfriend will never let me touch her in her bathing suit area again. But if the Stormers take it, I won’t be disappointed in the slightest, as it will give me an opportunity to email all my friends and say I TOLD YOU SO LIKE 5 MONTHS AGO YOU WANKERS. Anyway, the show must go on as Tina Turner once sang.

  2. regarding eye of the tiger by the famous group survivor: once in a generation a song is created that breaks down all boundaries. a song that creates a new mindset in the human race and turns around our conceptions of race and spacetime. eye of the tiger is not that song. but eye of the tiger will be playing when we create that other song, possibly in a laboratory.

  3. Hello! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this website?
I’m getting tired of WordPress because I’ve
had problems with hackers and I’m looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be awesome if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
