Richie Jackson – Cerebral Kickflip

This week we swing the spot light Down Under, and focus on a fairly abstract individual, Richie Jackson. Originally hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, Jackson now resides in Sydney, Australia. Seen by many as a breath of fresh air on the street skate scene, his deviance from anything resembling normality or routine sparks a style and creativity so fresh is borders on esoteric, one wonders just how the world must look through Richie Jackson’s eyes.

Richie Jackson psychedelicism

In his words (courtesy of Transworld skateboarding):

“I believe in psychedelicism. Not just psychedelic music, but everything. A psychedelic experience is characterized as the unveiling of perceptions previously unknown — the brain unfettered from its usual constraints. To me, it’s all there is, and certainly all that’s worth doing. I find no worth in that which doesn’t surprise. Anomalies, irregularities, deviation from the common rule — that is all I will ever care for.”

Jackson’s intrepid belief in psychedelicism gifts him an ability to abandon convention, set fire to the proverbial box and paint a picture from the ashes.

Richie Jackson – ‘And Now’ Transworld Skateboarding

Richie’s express rise to prominence from the features of Sydney’s Martin Place Mall to Transworld skateboarding video parts in less than 3 years has weaved his imagination into the skateboarding landscape, opening up new avenues in street expression. Part of what I respect about Richie Jackson is his integrity, still dressing like a mad hatter, and adhering to his principals. He might not be your choice of guest at your next tea party, but then again, who has friggin’ tea parties?
